Medtech ALEX® Implementation Guide - Local Development build (v0.0.1) built by the FHIR (HL7® FHIR® Standard) Build Tools. See the Directory of published versions
The goal of this page is to outline Medtech’s FHIR implementation of the International Patient Summary. For more information on FHIR/HL7 specific guidance, please refer to the official HL7 FHIR IPS Implementation Guide.
The first resource in the IPS is a FHIR Composition resource that acts as a document header (or table of contents) and contains information about the sections in the patient summary document, which has references to the resources that have the content for each of those sections. The type
field in the Composition resource is set to Patient Summary Document
(with the Loinc code 60591-5 also indicating it is a Patient Summary Document
).
The FHIR profile of this Bundle
can be viewed here.
As defined in the above Profile, the FHIR resources which compose the Medtech IPS are:
The medication section contains a description of the patient’s medications relevant for the scope of the patient summary.
This section documents the relevant allergies or intolerances (conditions) for a patient, describing the kind of reaction (e.g. rash, anaphylaxis,..); preferably the agents that cause it; and optionally the criticality and the certainty of the allergy.
The IPS active problems section lists and describes clinical problems or conditions currently being monitored for the patient.
The Immunizations Section defines a patient’s current immunization status and pertinent immunization history. The primary use case for the Immunization Section is to enable communication of a patient’s immunization status. The section includes current immunization status and the entire clinically pertinent immunization history that is known.
This current lists Medtech ALEX.
This section assembles relevant observation results collected on the patient or produced on in-vitro biologic specimens collected from the patient. Some of these results may be laboratory results, others may be anatomic pathology results, and others, radiology results.
The profiles that have been defined for this implementation guide are listed here.
Following are the profiles that have been defined for each section:
